Great news for you, the Beauty and the Bees client, and the Orangutans whose habitat is being destroyed!
We have, since the inception of the business 20 years ago, used palm oil for it’s valuable skin conditioning properties.
However, since the world also discovered it’s value as a bio fuel, we have watched with horror the mounting toll that the rapacious, unscrupulous slash and burn cultivation of the oil palm has had on the orangutan population, primarily in Borneo and Sumatra.
We decided 5 years ago to act, and replaced palm oil in all our formulations with raw coconut oil (from the Pacific Islands) and soy wax (from the USA) both skin loving oils with richly emollient properties – which are both in wide, long established, sustainable cultivation over a larger area of the developed world, so readily available.
We are proudly 100% non RSPO* palm oil free, so as well as using only recycleable glass tin or paper packaging (plastics only where unavoidable such as inserts, caps and sprays) we are even more environmentally friendly.
*RSPO is the Round Table of Sustainable Palm Oil production
In the interests of transparency we have added a Hair Conditioning Bar recently which contains a small percentage of an ingredient -Cetearyl Alcohol- which is derived from RSPO certified palm oil. We have, before committing to this ingredient, obtained statements of RSPO membership/production from the supplier to ensure that it is produced without enviromental damage.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to not blot our good environmental copybook however we will continue to use our current label stock which list palm oil as an ingredient until we have used all stocks, instead of wastefully destroying many hundreds of thousands of them.
When we reprint a range label we will then delete it as an ingredient.
